Reading several notes together
Notes are written one at a time, but they’re often read together: the chapters of a plan, a week of journal entries, the research behind a decision. Read Together puts the ones you choose into a single scrolling window.
Open a reading
Select several notes in the list, then choose Note › Read Together, or right-click the
selection and choose it there. The window shows the notes end to end, in the order the note list
has them, with a line between each one saying where you are: 3 OF 7 · EDITED 14 SEP 2026.
The reading is read-only, so nothing can be changed by accident. Edit a note in the main window and the reading updates in place.
Find your way around
The outline on the left lists every note and its headings; click one to jump there.
- Drag a note to put the reading in a different order.
- Remove from Reading takes a note out of this reading. It never deletes the note.
- Open Note opens it in the main window for editing.
Save it as a reading list
Save Reading List… at the bottom of the outline names the arrangement and puts it in the sidebar under Reading Lists, where you can reopen, rename or delete it.
A reading list stores which notes are in it and their order. Deleting the list never deletes notes, and a note you move to the Trash simply drops out of the reading until you restore it.
Export as one document
Export as One Document…, also at the bottom of the outline, saves the reading in its order as a single Markdown, HTML, PDF, Word or Rich text file. Each note sits under its own title, followed by a line saying where it came from:
# Monday
*From [Monday](varlig://open-note?id=…) in Varlig · modified 22 September 2026 at 08:14*
The link opens the note in Varlig. In PDF, Word and rich text each note starts on a new page, and
HTML starts a new page when printed; Markdown puts a <!-- pagebreak --> line between notes, which
other apps hide. Markdown copies the attachments to an assets folder beside the file, and the
other formats include them, with Include comments as in any export. Each note’s calculations
keep their own answers.
Locked notes are skipped and listed in the export report. Unlocked protected notes are skipped too, unless you tick Include unlocked protected notes; those copies aren’t encrypted. The notes themselves never change.
Calculations stay in their own note
Each note keeps its own calculation scope while you read. A value defined in one note never answers a line in another, so reading a year of expense notes together doesn’t make their totals collide.
Protected notes
A password-protected note appears as a placeholder headed Protected note; unlocking Varlig doesn’t unlock it here. While Varlig itself is locked, the reading empties and says so.
