Review and On This Day
Notes are easy to write and easy to forget. Review hands you a few older notes each day, says why each one turned up, and lets you deal with it in one click. On This Day shows what you wrote on this date in earlier years.
The daily batch
Review in the sidebar (⌥⌘8) shows the day’s notes and a counter such as “2 of 5 reviewed today”. Under each note is the reason it’s there, in plain words:
Never reviewed · edited 843 days ago · tagged #ideasNot reviewed in 96 dayssnooze ended
Notes you haven’t looked at for the longest come first; a note you’ve never reviewed counts from its last edit. Nothing is shuffled or scored secretly.
Each note offers:
- Mark Reviewed — done for now, and it uses up one of the day’s places.
- Snooze — 1 Week, 1 Month or Until… a date you pick. The next note takes its place today.
- The eye-slash button — never show this note in review again.
When the day’s batch is done, Review More fetches another round if any notes are waiting. Refresh rebuilds the queue.
Choose what gets reviewed
The menu at the top of the panel limits review to one tag, so you can work through #ideas without
meeting everything else.
Settings › Journal & Review › Review sets how many notes a day you want — between 1 and 50, five
by default — and the tags to keep out of review entirely, such as private or journal.
These are always left out: archived, trashed, template, password-protected and empty notes, notes carrying a protected tag, notes with an excluded tag, and notes you’ve excluded by hand.
On This Day
Under the day’s batch, On This Day lists notes created on this month and day in earlier years,
labelled 3 years ago · 14 Sep 2023. It uses the same exclusions as review, but ignores the tag
scope and any snoozes. A note created on 29 February appears on 28 February in ordinary years.
Where this is stored
When each note was reviewed is stored in the library, so it travels with your notes. The daily count, the excluded tags and the current scope are kept on this Mac.
