This page lists every unit symbol and name Varlig Calc recognises, grouped by what the unit measures. Use it to check how to spell a unit, or to find the symbol to convert to. Each section has a table of units and a few example conversions.
For how to attach units to numbers, convert with in or to, and do arithmetic with them, see Units and conversions.
Symbols are case-sensitive.MB is a megabyte and Mb is a megabit. Mm is not a megametre: it’s read as mm.
Names must be spelled as listed.(s) means the singular and plural both work, so mile(s) accepts mile and miles. A name listed only in one form, such as kilojoules, works only in that form.
British and US spellings both work for every metre and litre unit, including the ones inside square, cubic and rate names: centimetres, millilitres, square metres, kilometres per hour, litres per 100 kilometres. tonne(s) is the metric tonne.
Words that aren’t units are left out of a plain line, but not of a conversion.2 milligrams shows a plain 2, because the name is listed as milligram, and 2 milligrams in g shows unknown unit: milligrams. If an answer is missing the unit you expected, or shows that error, check the spelling here.
Look-alike characters spell the same unit, so text pasted from a datasheet works as it is. The Greek μ works like the micro sign µ, ˚ like the degree sign, ℃ and ℉ like °C and °F, and the ångström, ohm and kelvin signs like Å, Ω and K. Spaces around / or · don’t change a unit either (lb · ft, mi / gal).
Answers show the unit in a standard form, which can differ from what you typed. 2 ft shows 2 feet, 2 A shows 2 amps, 2 kph shows 2 km/h and 2 imperial pints shows 2 UK pt.
in also means “convert to”, but a number followed by in at the end of a line or before an operator is inches: 11 in is 11 inches, 6 in * 6 in is 36 in², and 11 in in cm converts. For pixels, points, em and rem, see Screen and type.
gal, qt, pint, cup and fl oz are US measures. For the British gallon, quart, pint and fluid ounce, put UK, imp or imperial in front, in capitals or not: uk gal, imp pt, 2 UK Pints and UK fluid ounces all work, and so does the system in brackets after the unit, as in 5 fl oz (UK). US in front names the US measure. Cups and spoons have no UK size, so UK cup is an unknown unit.

d works only as a conversion target (36 h in d). After a number, write day or days.
When you convert a length of time, a month counts as 30.436875 days and a year as 365.2425 days. Adding months, years or decades to a date uses real calendar months and years instead; see Dates and the calendar.
A night is 24 hours. A workday is 8 hours unless you change the hours per workday in Settings.

Any length divided by any time also works as a speed, such as km/hour or mi/min. A time per distance written as minutes and seconds, such as 5:30/km or 7:30/mi, is a pace; see Pace.
You can write degrees, minutes and seconds together, as in 12° 30′ 15″. After a degree value, ' and " mean arcminutes and arcseconds; after a plain number they mean feet and inches.
C and F are temperatures, not farads, and C means coulombs only when you convert an electric charge. A lowercase c straight after a number is Celsius in a temperature conversion (20c in F) and for a decimal, a negative number or 100 and over (180c); next to money, before a rate, or for a whole number up to 99 on its own, it’s cents. See Cents and pence. Celsius and Fahrenheit convert and scale normally, but they can’t be squared or multiplied by another unit. gas mark 1 to gas mark 9, and gas mark ¼ and ½, give UK oven temperatures. See Temperature.
Bytes (B) and bits (b) each come with decimal prefixes, which step by 1,000, and binary prefixes, which step by 1,024. A capital B is a byte and a lower-case b is a bit, so Mb is a megabit.
Farads, henrys, siemens and teslas have no symbol, so write their names. F is a temperature and T is read as tonnes. C is Celsius too, except when you convert a charge into it, as in 2 A * 30 min in C. A singular name shows in the plural form in answers: 1 tesla shows 1 teslas.

Distance per volume and volume per distance convert into each other, and mi/gal is the same as MPG, whether you convert from it or to it. A plain mpg is miles per US gallon, so write UK mpg for a UK figure. See Fuel economy.
By default, 1 inch is 96 px, 1 pt is 1⅓ px and 1 em or rem is 16 px. To use a different screen density, add at and a ppi value; see The at and @ operator.
