Currency reference

This page lists every currency Varlig Calc recognises: 167 fiat currencies, 6 subunits such as cents and satoshis, and 145 cryptocurrencies. Use it to look up a code, check which name you can type instead, or see how an amount will be shown.

Writing a currency

• Codes work in upper or lower case, before or after the amount: 100 USD, usd 100.
• Names from the tables work too, typed as shown: 100 swiss francs, 250 japanese yen.
• Singular names work too: 1 trinidad and tobago dollar.
• Names containing “and” work as typed, such as bosnia and herzegovina convertible marks.
• No English name: where the name repeats the code (clf, cuc, ern, ggp, imp, jep, kpw, mga, std, xdr, zmk), type the code.

Exchange rates

Adding, multiplying and dividing amounts in one currency always works, and so does converting a currency to itself. Converting between two currencies needs an exchange rate. Varlig takes fiat rates from the European Central Bank’s daily feed and caches them on your Mac, so the answers below change as rates are updated.

Recognising a code doesn’t guarantee a rate for it. If no rate is available, the line shows a missing-rate error that names the currency.

How amounts are shown

The Shown as column shows how 1,250 of each currency appears with the default formatting settings.

• Most currencies show two decimal places.
• BIF, CLP, DJF, GNF, ISK, JPY, KMF, KRW, PYG, RWF, UGX, VND, VUV, XAF, XOF and XPF show none.
• BHD, IQD, JOD, KWD, LYD, OMR and TND show three.
• Cryptocurrencies aren’t rounded to a fixed number of places. They show up to ten decimal places, like plain numbers.

Fiat currencies (167 entries)

cfa francs on its own means the Central African franc, XAF. For the West African franc, write west african cfa francs or XOF. STN also accepts the unaccented sao tome and principe dobras, and zambian kwacha gives the current kwacha, ZMW. STD and ZMK are the currencies those replaced, available by code.

Subunits (6 entries)

Type a subunit by name, or write pence and cents as a price label does, with p or c straight after the number (99p, 24.5p/kWh, 99c). Converting a subunit to its main currency, or adding it to an amount in that currency, doesn’t need an exchange rate: £1.20 + 45p is £1.65. Pence and cents are shown in pounds, dollars or euros; add in pence or in cents to see the subunit. Next to euros, c and cents mean euro cents. See Cents and pence for when p and c count as money.

Type the code or the name as listed. Amounts show the code after the number (2 SOL), except bitcoin, which shows ₿.
