Varlig Guide

Get more out of every note.

Write notes in plain Markdown and work out the numbers right beside the plan: a trip, a shared bill, a recipe or a quote for a job. Take the tour, borrow an idea, or look up exactly what Varlig understands.

calc
# Weekend in Lisbon
hotel = €145 * 2 gives €290.00
flights = €89 * 2 gives €178.00
food = €60 * 3 gives €180.00
total = hotel + flights + food gives €648.00
total / 2 gives €324.00

Plain Markdown, neatly styled

Headings, checklists, tables, links and tags are ordinary Markdown. Type the symbols or press a shortcut, and Varlig styles the note as you write, with a calc block wherever the numbers are.

You type
# Moving day
Keys handed over on **Friday**, so the van is booked for ==8 am==. #home/move

- [x] Book the van
- [ ] Redirect the post
- [ ] Ask [[Sam and Ana]] about the sofa

```calc
van = £85
fuel = £36
(van + fuel) / 3
```
Varlig shows

Moving day

Keys handed over on Friday, so the van is booked for 8 am. #home/move

  • Book the van
  • Redirect the post
  • Ask Sam and Ana about the sofa
calc
van = £85 gives £85.00
fuel = £36 gives £36.00
(van + fuel) / 3 gives £40.33

Write it the way you’d say it

Discounts, conversions and speeds read the way you would write them on paper. Names you define, like hotel above, carry through the rest of the note, so changing one number updates every answer that uses it.

calc
20% off £80 gives £64.00
2.5 hours in minutes gives 150 min
5 km / 25 min in km/h gives 12 km/h
